Hi all,
Well the wife is letting me get a new monitor for christmas so I want to ditch my Samsung Syncmaster 955DF and get an LCD. I read the guide and have been shopping around, but I could use some opinions. I want DVI and at least a 19-inch display. The Samsung 970P is a bit too high for me at ~$550. If I go with a lower end panel than this price range, will it be noticeably better or worse than my current CRT?

See if you can go to your local CompUSA and check out the ViewSonic VP930b monitor, or the VP191b if you can't find the former. (Both are arguably just as good as the Samsung 970P.) I'll be taking a hike down there maybe this weekend to check them out (well Christmas Eve shopping is a recipe for disaster). I'll also probably get the VP930b for a Christmas present if the 970P's price doesn't rush down soon.

^ Excellent reads. The hardware.fr review should appear on their English subsidiary BeHardware soon so you'll be able to read it.

I had a 900NF which is better than the 955DF IMO and my 2005FPW is just as good of picture and colors as the CRT. It was $380 with taxes and shipping. If you have a budget of $400 or so and check out Hot Deals, its hard to find a better LCD for the money. And yes, it seems unless you had a super high quality CRT to begin with then new 2005 owners are all happy with their LCDs over previous monitors.

I recently did some research for a friend and here is a list of what I thought were some good 19" LCD's to pick from. Prices are approximate.

8-bit color panel:
Dell 1905FP - $350
Sony SDM-S95DB - $400
HP L1955 - $350 (after $50 MIR unitl 1/31/06 @ Tiger Direct)
Viewsonic VP930 - $450

6-bit color panel:
Hyundai B90A - $300 (analog input only, but users don't seem to mind)
Samsung 940B - $380
Viewsonic VX 922 - $400
Viewsonic VX924 - $380

Where the heck did you get those prices from? Alot of those are wrong the VP930b can be found for $400, 940b and VX924 can both be found under 300AR, VX922 for about $350 and the hyundai should be out of the question(analog is dead). Your post was also not very informant because you dont even know what purpose the OP would use it for. You basically posted monitors with random response times, and seemed only to arrange them by type. I know your pricing is supposed to be approximate but i feel it is way off, its almost like your leaning the OP to a 8-bit lcd. Even if we exclude the fact that his budget covers all of it. And to the OP your bb4b would be the VP930b for a 19". Also a question do you do gaming?
