Hi,

Seems kinda bored looking at the silver or blue task bar..
I want to change the theme of my xp.
which third party will you suggest? or should i use Plus! ?

is StyleXP any good? will it eat most of my resources?
I got 3gb of ram.. just in case

Just modify your uxtheme.dll file, google it. Then, go on DeviantART and get the Windows Vista theme, labelled Vistab2, awesome theme. No resources used FTW.

If you just google "uxtheme.dll replacer" or "uxtheme.dll hack" you'll find everything you need with plenty of instructions. You'll basically find a uxtheme.dll file and a replacer program in which you just drop the modded uxtheme.dll in the window when it says to, then drop the original from system32 when it says to, then it swaps them out safely (don't just drag n drop from explorer it won't work). Then you can use unsigned themes like Xyclone said.

I was using Style XP for a couple years before i found out about Brico Pack. Though, now i'm using the new Vista theme, much better and does require any software to run in background like stylexp.

Got a link to the Vistab2 theme? I can't seem to find it on Deviantart. 😱

I think StyleXP basically does the same thing as modifying the uxtheme.dll file, but I could be wrong. In any case, it worked very well for me. WindowsBlinds uses a little different solution - it "covers up" the original Windows theme and replaces it with its own. WB isn't as neat as StyleXP, but personally i've found better themes with WB, so that's what I stick with.

If you think the alien thing is cool , check out alienware's website . they also have a few XP skins that you can download that change everything , and look pretty cool. The Windows media player skin is really neat.
For something different , it's worth a look.

Any idea how that Bricopack Crystal theme looks with a vertical taskbar? I know several themes that have custom "start" logos/buttons screw up royally. I might try that out this evening.

Also, all the pictures are in non-English. I assume this theme still supports English language without any hiccups.

For the Vista cursors:

1. Download the cursor package.
2. Extract the downloaded file.
3. Right click the ?Install.inf? file and click on ?Install?.
4. Goto the Control Panel and select ?Mouse?.
5. Click on the Pointers tab and choose the cursor: ?Aero Cursors (Alphablended)?.
6. You?re done!

That is pretty decent. Can you move your task bar to the right side of you screen and capture that for me? I wanna see if the Start Buttn and task tray/date-time work out.
I would if I still had that particular style or used Style XP anymore. I got tired of it after a little while.
Eventually I just wanted the simplicity of XP with the clean look of Classic.

I will say that most of the themes StyleXP comes with do look nice with the taskbar on the side. The date/time section looks good without being distorted or intrusive.

On a completely unrelated note, thanks for the invite to WoW. Am going to try that tonight after I get dinner.

Yeah, I just DL'd and tried the Crystal one (not the one you posted), and yes, the start Button gets screwed up with a vertical taskbar. (the quicklauch menu gets half-hidden behind the buttona nd you can't move it.) 🙁

Ah well. I think I'll stick with my clean Classic, too. Fast as lightning as this new machine.
