Wandering Security Guards

It drives me nuts. Just really creepy these guys wandering through my work areas. They don't stick to halls, they actually walk through our NOC and data center and such.

And since they're bored to tears they're reading every screen they can as they walk by. (Not mine because of the way my desk faces.)

Anybody else have this?

I can't imagine a single compliance standard would find that acceptable... why in the hell do they have him in the DATA CENTER?

Shouldn't he be at the front desk where 100% of intruders will come through?

Yeah, we have a small army. They just wander the grounds during work hours. After-hours they make internal rounds.

We only have a security guy here at night, he just stops by every once in a while and walks through the halls.

Yea what gives? How do you know they don't have one of those photographic memories and are actually doling out information to competition in exchange for cash?

I'm actually one of those at a government facility.

Don't worry about it. We just go where we're told. We don't mean any harm and we aren't after your work or memorizing what your family look like. The only thing i look at in offices are the Dilbert/Foxtrot/Far Side cartoons people post up when no one is in that area. I couldnt even begin to comprehend the actual work going on since I am horrible at understanding most science-related things as well as complicated equations.

Yeah we find it awkward at times too. I know I personally don't like disturbing people while they work and even though im supposed to be there, I feel like i'm invading a territory I shouldn't be in.

Not only do we have them where I work, but there are little tags scattered around that they have to scan to prove that they did their rounds.
