looked like something from the future. but man were the displays nice! saw one setup...dual display with two 23" LCD widescreen monitors with a G5. man that was soo cool. i also found their graphical features better than windows. wish i could afford a setup like that. :D

I might drag my ass up to the apple store in SoHo if they get some Ipod minis soon. I'm looking forward to checking out the goods. To be honest, I think I've actually used a Mac once.

The iPod Mini's have been on display at my local store (Roosevelt Field Mall) for a few weeks now.

I first started programming on Macs (Pascal/C/C++) and I just don't understand why everyone hates them so much... Obviously the OS isn't as familiar to your average PC user, but that doesn't mean they're bad computers. The only thing I really didn't like about Macs was the one-button mouse (and that's not even really an issue, seeing as how one can purchase multi-button mice for Macs).
I wouldn't mind having a Dual G5 setup. I just wouldn't buy one unless it was ridiculously cheap ;)

Give me a dual G5 with 23" LCD, iChat and iPod ... I'll be as happy as a clam.

Now where is that $10,000 bill I have laying around.

It's right here :p. If I seriously had that kind of money lying around, and didn't need anything hat was required for living, I would so get the Dual G5, with 23 inch display. I have always loved the monitor, and computer.

I love how quiet it is, the design and the one monitor cable (ADC I think it's called) which carries power and video signal in one cable.

However when it comes to value, speed and the OS I still prefer XP Pro.

For value I can agree with you. Nothing beats your garage special 400 dollar PC from Dell. But for speed I say they are pretty equal, and with the next PowerMac speed bump, one can only imagine how fast it will be. For the OS, I disagree with you. Since using Mac OS X almost full time for a few weeks now, I can wholeheartedly say it is a much better OS. So simplistic, yet so powerful. For your average user, it is simple to navigate and use, but for your geeks like us, it has the Unix underpinnings.

That's odd... I can never get XP Pro running right on my main rig, I think it's too powerful or something. My mom's boyfriend's celery does fine all day and all night.. This rig, after 5 hours, it starts lagging like crazy... I'll stick to 2k Pro.

You may be correct because I have never used Mac OS X.

I gave up around early 2000 when I was still using OS 9.x on my iMac (rev B).

Once the iBook offers something I cannot resist (wish I knew what that was) at a decent price, I'll definitely buy one. I love the iLife suite of apps (iPhoto, iTunes, etc.).

I personally have the PowerBook 17. While not necessarily a great deal, I can say I am not disappointed. I was able to get a student discount, which knocked around $700 off the final purchase price. When I was purchasing, the only two I considered were the 15 and 17 inch, because to me the 12 inch powerbook does not offer me enough real estate for CAD, CAS, and programming. When a friend of mine got a 17 and I was able to play with it in a real environment that was the deal maker for me. And with the difference being around 200 bucks it was worth it IMO. I will be taking out safeware insurance when I go to college so I am fully covered in case of theft.

I like the PB 15" it's the perfect size and power but the price tag is YEECH!

I could get a loaded faster/better IBM ThinkPad T41 for the same price, maybe less.

Yeah, which is why I said not necessarily the best deal. The only x86 laptop I would consider is an IBM, but once I get done configuring it for what I need, it goes slightly higher than my final purchase price for my PB. If I needed ultraportability and up to like eight or nine hours from one battery, I definitely would have looked more into the IBM T41.
