WAN Acceleration - SAPGUI network optimization

Hello,

I'm on a research mission to see how to improve SAPGUI performance.
We had a look at the actual transactions and operations and it seems that the reason for our very slow performance is WAN (on LAN everything works fast enough and users from the central office where the servers are don't complain).

Anyone know of a good WAN accelerator that can tackle SAPGUI?

Thanks,
Mark

How slow is the WAN link? I have people coding in ABAP over a slow 3 megabit max VPN link and never have complaints.

We've had success w/ Riverbed's Steelhead, but we don't use SAPGUI on our network, so can't comment on that particular application.
If it's an ongoing issue, pick two WAN Opt vendors, and do a bake-off.

Thanks,
We have a standard 10mbps line.
I don't think the bandwidth is the problem, it's the latency, we have up to 500 msec roundtrips and we use SAPGUI heavily (can't migrate to the HTTP version).

As I understand Riverbed has limitations when it comes to SAPGUI but I'll look into it.

Anybody using / heard of another solution?

I'm not sure there are any devices that cache or accelerate SAP WAN traffic. Maybe look at some kind of remote desktop/citrix option to keep the work near the server and just send screen draws.

The main office is in Europe and we have loacations all over.
Highest latencies are from Alaska, Australia and South Africa.

We have landlines connecting the locations and people out in the field with mobile devices that connect the local office.
