I was reviewing my CC balances today and saw they were both several hundred dollars higher than I had in my spreadsheet.
The one card has been compromised 4 times now, twice this year alone (the other two times in 2002 and 2006)...my initial thought was somehow it got hit again.
I get my statements out and see the rate on both cards are Prime +26.99%...
Turns out back in January I paid both cards on the day the payment could be 'express paid'...I called up and they said they'd waive that fee on one account (both were due the same day).
Paid and thought that was done.
The following month the card they waived the express fee on had both an overlimit now and late payment fee...I called back and was told they'd remove both due to the records on the account.
I have had these accounts for about 10 years now...pay on time and more than the minimums.
They doubled that cards rate as well as the other card for going over the limit on the one by $21.xx.
Basically my payments have not been getting applied like I thought and both balances have bounced off the limit several times just due to the fees.
Where I thought 70% of my payment was hitting principal now only about 30% does.
Anyone know options...they don't want to negotiate and most card companies aren't taking on new accounts with high balances. I'd hate to default, but this is out of control now over $21 ten months ago.
