I bought a whole bunch of stuff from walmart during xmas time and threw away the receipts cause i didnt think i would be returning the stuff.

well, after a while, i decided i didnt like some of the stuff. so far i've returned 5 items in 3 trips. today, i tried to return something else, and the CSR said there's a 3 time limit for returning stuff. (they used my driver's license as id.) oh well, no biggie.

just some FYI to those that didnt know Walmart's policy

True, that's more than fair IMHO.

They ask for a state or institutional ID. Really depends on what the business is doing. Music store I used to work for required an SSN as part of an application to rent an instrument.

That has been their policy for years.

I was behind someone in the return line at a Walmart several years ago. He tried to to return a rifle without a receipt. They told him he had already made three returns without a receipt within a year and they wouldn't accept the return. He then argued that he had never returned anything to the store without a receipt and they were wrong. The store associate proceeded to list off his returns without a receipt by date, store number and location. So don't think this applies on a per store basis. Walmart tracks you nationwide.

More than reasonable. Many "returns" are shoplifted merchandise brought in by thieves

Target allows 10 returns without receipts within a year. One of our friends tried to return something and the C.S. agent said "sorry" and explained the policy to her. Our friend was kind of upset. When my wife told me the story, I almost lost it. WTF?!? 10 returns per year without a receipt -- and our friend still gets upset? :(

Um not true about the one around here. I took back a DVD after Christmas that my wife's parents sent my son. He already had it, and I didn't have a reciept. They took my License number and gave me cash back. I didn't get store credit?

We do get gifts for our daughter a lot. Target gives gift receipts but not everyone likes to provide those... anyway they do have a limit that I hit. The other policy is they'll only let you buy something from the SAME DEPARTMENT you got the items refunded from, they'll hold the items at customer service and make you go back and pick something else. Now, that's annoying but it's their right.

Anyway, when I hit the limit I just went in with my wife and used her ID after that. Turns out baby clothes get dropped in price (clearance) so quick they were worthless, so, we just kept them to give away to goodwill or whatever.

Of course, it's nationwide. Wal-Mart has some of the most robust I.T. equipment around. All of their stores are linked to central servers. After 3 returns, Wal-Mart ownz you!
