its pretty evident the video game influenced them to do the shootings (much like the teenager who stole over 100 cars in wisconsin in one weekend), however its the parents fault for the gun access, and the parent's fault for letting them play a game marked M for mature, not to mention the kids' flat out stupidity they probably would have ended up pulling a columbine anyway if they're dumb enuff to go shooting cars on the highway on a whim

nonetheless some sympathetic jury will probably award the true victims some money (big bux to the lawyers)

a freaking quarter billion dollars

I was doing a copy and past of the article links and a commentary into Frivilous Lawsuits thread while you were posting this one 🙂

Since the Judicail system is the disaster it is, does the President have the authority to make a ruliong or change the Judicial system to stop this Frivilous insanity by instituting Loser pays?

Such a change would obviously have to come from Congressional legislation. We have a system of checks and balances for a reason, I don't want a single man being able to make changes to our country that are that drastic all by himself without review from anyone else.

i was walking along and saw a brick block above my head.
naturally i tired to break it with my head and split my skull open.

do i have a case?

That's what I meant. Obviously the President is part of the Executive Branch. More precisely, can another Branch Legislate a change in a different Branch? Clearly the Judicial branch is not going to fix it's own mess.

the dems just filibustered a bill against frivolous lawsuits in the senate :|

with that said... even though i think it's the parents' fault for letting the kids play GTA, the makers of GTA is uh... i don't know. i played GTA and it got boring fast but then our entertainment has degraded to the level that shooting people on the streets and stealing cars is considered as fun. CS and other FPS games are different, they have different settings unlike GTA where they just shoot random people.

i think im being hypocritical since i enjoyed running stuff over with a PANZER in GTA vice city but anyway... i'll shut up now since i don't know what im talking about.

It's the parent's parents fault for letting the parents grow up to allow such things. And hey! Society influences everyone, so it's society's fault too! This should be a suit against everyone in the world becaue everyone contributed in some way to this happening :Q

What if I watched a cop shoot a bad guy on the street, and then I shot a bad guy. Can the bad guy's parents sue the police department for influencing me?

"The law of Deep Pockets" - don't you just love it?

Its the modern day 'American Dream' - Win a frivolous lawsuit for millions, join the upper class and laugh at the unemployed.

The part that I don't understand about these frivolous video game lawsuits is that there are MILLIONS of other kids that have played the same game and not become any more violent.

This whole lawsuit boils down to personal responsibility. The parents do not want to admit that they are at fault for not having control over their kids. They allowed the kids to play the game and they kept accessible guns in their house. At the same time, they refuse to admit that their kids were just plain stupid.

I like to call it "Failure of a Parent" syndrome because they were lousy parents, or "Guilty Parent" syndrome because their kids did something stupid, and they now feel that they need to control everyone else's kids. It happens everytime a teenager is killed by getting in a car accident. Suddenly the parents feel obligated to start a nation wide organization to promote safe driving, limit teenage drivers licenses, etc. Of course, they just can't admit that their kids were the stupid, unsafe drivers.

PATHETIC.

You do understand that the parents of the VICTIMS are the ones suing, right?
