walmart pwns UFCW (union) again

"The UFCW has tried to organize our associates for years," Terry Srsen, vice president of labor relations for Wal-Mart, said in the statement. "However, many of our associates are former union members -- they know better than anyone that the only guarantee a union can make is that it will cost the members money -- and that is why they continue to reject the UFCW."

Who cares?

if you don't care, why'd you click on the thread? 😕

I click on almost all threads. Then I found it amusing that you thought WalMart shutting down stores and people voting against labor unions was " "

BTW I think this belongs in P&N

I thought walmart paid like shat and treated their employees like shat so a union of good quality would be welcome.

Oh, bullsh!t. When a company's business model depends on the exploitation of its workers, yeah, it's going to oppose unionizing, and their VP is going to make idiotic statements like the one quoted.

I detest Wal Mart for multiple reasons, and I exercise my freedom of economic choice by not shopping there. It is my hope that someday the majority of consumers will choose likewise.

Exploitation of workers? 😕

IT'S RETAIL WORK. It's no different than Target, the endless number of mall stores, and the vast majority of fast food joints.

Don't like it? Then improve yourself and get a better paying job.

AFAIK most retail chains don't make it a habit to a) routinely deny workers the opportunity for full-time work, b) routinely ask employees to perform tasks after clocking out, c) alter time sheets, etc.

I'm not saying that retail employees go out and go get an education - I have an overwhelming blue-collar/lower-class presence in my family and I'm keenly aware of the fact that no matter what happens with the US economy, there is a large portion of the population that will never be smart enough, or desire, to get a two-year degree or four year degree.

Such a statement from you is just a cop-out, one that I've used before but I acknowledge readily is a cop-out.

I'm not saying that people should be paid $20 an hour for bagging groceries. I am saying that people should be allowed to unionize without fear of being fired or other reprisal, like simply closing the store.

I agree with you.

Unfortunately the average American is simply too stupid to see through the fascade.

Yes, when in doubt, call everyone else stupid. Works every time.

It's the way WalMart schedules most workers as part-time to avoid having to pay them benefits. There's also that little thing that pops up once in a while were the WalMart employees are locked in the store and forced to work overtime.
