story

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the nation's largest private sector employer and world's biggest company by revenue, obtained a nationwide injunction against the union in 2001 that said soliciting for new members in Wal-Mart stores constituted trespassing.

A spokeswoman for Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart said the company was still reviewing the court's opinion and therefore couldn't comment specifically on the decision. However, she said Wal-Mart remained committed "to protecting our stores, our [naive] customers, our [underpaid] employees [as well as our $5-$10 billion in annual profits]... from aggressive and unsolicited [yet justified] actions."

booooooooooooooooooooooo.

there go those cheap prices at walmart. :|

Wal-Mart opposes unions, a stance that dates back to founder Sam Walton, who thought unions were divisive and anti-competitive.

that's the truth.

Why are you happy about this?

Unions come in. Walmart's costs go up. Walmart charges more. Walmart is market leader, so smaller chains follow suit.

You get fvcked, greedy union thugs and lazy workers benefit. Yeah, that's real good for America.

When Sam was alive, he would fry a Bentonville exec who tried to pull crap on an employee due to position. Now Sam is gone, and Wally World is a different place, but not a better one. I can see where people are more interested in a union than they once were.

the executives make millions while the people that do the work get enough to buy dog food. Its basically racketeering of labor imo.

I think if they pay the workers what they deserve, they won't have to worry about them joining the union. They are worried now, and they should be.

Yep, but its not like they bought any out of their own pockets. Ridiculous unexpensed stock option incentives are an unchecked disease in greedy companies.

How old are you? I'm guessing that you're 14, and you've been brainwashed by your left-leaning, union card holding public school teachers.

Are you stupid? Do you understand how our job system works? The average WalMart job can be done by ANYONE, and there are plenty of stupid highschool kids to hire, thus, they don't get paid much. That's the way the free market system works...it isn't that complicated. Cashiers or warehouse employees or whatever else WalMart has do NOT deserve more than the $6/hr they get.

How does organizing labor equate to anti-free market? Labor is a commodity, and there's consolidation within companies and industries throughout the marketplace to gain market influence and effectiveness. Why should labor be excluded from this?

I want all crapping a$$holes who hate Walmart to do one thing, next time when you go into Walmart take notice how many elderly and/or disabled workers do you see? Then try to remember any other retail or food chain that lets people with disabilities to earn an honest living and to have the dignity and pride in knowing they don't exist on handouts.

Skills are a commodity, not labor. The kind of people who work at WalMart do not have scarce skills, hell it seems to me as if most were picked at random off the streets. Why should the employer be held hostage by a union for employees that are easily replaceable?

I see no reason to be happy about this.

While Unions have every right to organize workers, they do NOT have ANY right to go onto PRIVATE property against the wishes of it's owners.

If non-Walmart employees want to organize Walmart workers, they can do it off of Walmart's property.

This amounts to nothing less than an infringement of private property rights.

Time to put a 100% tax on income above a certain level. The execs deserve it.

Who are you kidding? Just finding someone who will show up, on time, every day they're schedualed and actually do the work is scarce.
