Walmart futon

Walmart has a Futon for 89.96 that inludes tha padding. I am thinking about buying it, but the thing is, I dont want to suffer from the good old you get what you pay for, especially since it is from walmart. If the padding is cheap, then fine, I will buy new padding. I can always buy new padding, but not until i get enough money to buy a good one. That's why this deal seems good, cause i just spen 90 bucks and get everythign for now and improve later. I am on a college student budget, so cheap is good, but cheaply built is not. What do you guys think? Normally, futons start at 130 w/o padding.

I had one of those... damn you really could feel every bar in your butt after you owned it for a week. Some of the bars eventually bent. I remember there was some other kind of problem with it, but I can't remember what, it was eventually thrown out (it was a few years ago). Also, very squeaky, so if you plan on having sex... well you're here on ATOT so you're probably not, nm.

First, not every walmart has the same futons - so what one person says may not be true for you.

The West Lafayette Walmart has an AWESOME futon, but it's $99.99 and as you know $10 at walmart is a significant price difference. The only problem with it are the 2 handlebars to pull out the futon are WAY too high so if you sit in the rong spot they go right into your legs, but this is easily solved with a dremel 🙂

Futon frames that aren't wood SUCK. They a both POS's and PIA's.

Cardboard over the steel helps a ton for those who this bothers, I personally don't mind the bars at all (and in some weird way actuially like them when I'm sleeping). Anyways, on a college budget you just can't afford a wood futon.

I slept on a cheap one for two years in college. As long as you get a thick cushion it isn't that bad.

I must respectfully disagree. I had the $99.99 futon from the West Lafayette Wal Mart and it wasn't that great. It was alright for sitting, but sleeping on it sucked hard.

My roomate had one of these...we felt every bar on teh futton seat...

was it atleast sturdy? Was it hard to assemble?

It's easy to assemble. It's pretty sturdy. A first improvement would be to get a sheet of 1/4" plywood and put it underneath the futton so you don't feel
every bar on teh futton seat...

That's not the only thing that sucked while sleeping on it...

..What?

I probably have the one you are referring to in my apt now.
It's easy to assemble and pretty sturdy.
The padding sucks, so you'll probably have to get a new one.

This is the same sucky one I was talking about. And those 'handlebars' more serve the purpose of the mat not sliding off in the couch position. It feels great in the store, but after a few days....

Do yourself a favor, save your money for a good futon. Meanwhile buy a good used bed matress and just lay it directly on the ground. It sounds ghetto, but your back will thank you.
