Man Arrested for Driving Drunk Inside Walmart

Man charged with driving drunk in shopping cart around Wal-Mart
21 hrs ago
A Florida man has been arrested for DUI-IW. That's driving under the influence — inside Wal-Mart. Actually, Timothy Carr of Brooksville is facing charges of disorderly intoxication and felony retail theft after allegedly driving drunk on a motorized shopping cart through the aisles of his local Wal-Mart on Sunday. According to police, Carr nabbed an alcoholic beverage right off a shelf at the superstore and was enjoying it as he knocked other items down. (Cleanup in Aisle 5!) Carr told the cops he couldn't afford to pay for his drink. Now he’s really going to pay for it.
Kinda funny, but I mainly posted this just so I could post this, lol:

I've always wondered how you can get a DUI on vehicles like this. Similar when you hear about people getting DUI's on lawn mowers.

I thought the intention of DUI's was to prevent fatalities, I don't think anyone in a motorized shopping cart is going to get in an accident that results in death.

They didn't actually charge him with a DUI.

Oops, I should've read the quote haha.

I just assumed, since people have been charged with DUI's on lawnmowers and bicycles, but maybe that is related to being on an actual street.

the police charged a man here for DUI while driving his handicap scooter.

The guy also broke a window in our store. He was seriously impaired.

We called the Police and as soon as he tried to go home using the scooter they charged him with DUI. The guy lives at the men's mission.

You can get a DUI on a bicycle and a skateboard apparently too though. I know he didn't get a DUI but if he was on the street maybe he could have?

Don't bring your driver's license with you if you're going to get drunk on your roller blades!

Definitely an entry for People of Walmart. I live on the Left Coast, so all our Walmarts are relatively upscale. The folks I see in them are pretty much the same crowd I find in Safeway and Target.

If he was in the parking lot or on the road he would have been charged DUI in NC. Anything motorized(scooter, lawn mower, tractor, etc) or a bicycle is DUI. However there is a statutory exception for riding a horse, evidently a senator somewhere got a DUI on a horse at some point.

I wonder if paraplegics could get a DUI in a wheelchair? Sounds like they definitely could in a motorized wheelchair. If they've had some drinks, do they need to ask for a designated carrier to throw them over their shoulder?

That is a funny gif. There was a story about a guy, that had built a motorized lazy-boy recliner, and he ended up getting arrested driving drunk to the liquor store for a re-fill.
You know the cops at the station, were laughing for weeks with that one.
I need a flat-bed for a 1979 stained black lazy-boy.

If they are in the road or a public parking they certainly could legally. Never heard of a case of it happening but as the law is written they could.

I doubt most taxi services can accommodate a motorized wheelchair and you aren't allowed to "walk" home in one. I guess you basically can't drink at a bar unless you have a DD with a wheelchair accessible vehicle. That sucks.
