LOL! I was writing the info on the back of a grocery receipt and I'm sure the employees wondered just what I was up to!

Oh yeah???

I've got you all beat! I didn't have anything to write with, so I decided to invent a 'decatonic' scale - a scale comprised of 10 notes instead of our usual 12 note scale; Then I made a song out of each 25 character UPC code based on this new scale & memorized ~10 UPC's (250 characters) using my new song on this new scale. When I got home I decoded the song & typed it out on anandtech...

...then I woke up

well, don't be surprised if a manager approaches you and asks you to leave the store

you are doing something retail stores call "comp shopping"

basically the stores send out employees to check on specific items and get the competition's price. some stores (like target) actually invite them in and let them sign the vendo login sheet. other stores (like walmart) tell you what you're doing is illegal and ask you to leave. how do i know? i comp shopped walmart for target :) after i got booted from one walmart store, i went to another one. just grabbed a cart and as i comp shopped i'd throw in an item every once in a while. i know emplyees start to wonder when they see me in the stores 2 hours later :) anyway, just a heads up to what they think you're doing :)

Or, better yet, with all the Dell Axims posted here, you could just get one and enter it into your PDA.

I'm a walmart employee and I also comp shop all the time. I go to Target, Kmart (before they closed), a local store, and Farm & Fleet. Target is the only one that doesn't care but I don't sign in there to comp, screw that. I've been kicked out of the local store before and Farm & Fleet also doesn't like me comp shopping. I know of people getting kicked out of there before.

Farm & Fleet is the shiznat if you've never shopped there before! It's where the Clampetts would have shopped if they lived near here! Noplace else can you buy a pair of jeans on one side of the aisle and on the other get a high-lift farm jack .. all for under $75!

Once the only thing handy to me was a tatto parlor, so I had the UPC's tattoed to my butt so I could take them home and scan them for you.

Or you can just buy everything and return it later to get the UPC/SKU's.

Although that may be quite a bill...
