Walls - What if they could change?

My girl is doing research on walls for her thesis. Yeah, walls, like ones that support your house. Could you imagine walls to have additional or different functions? What would they be? I can imagine walls being adaptive to emotion so that they change color depending on the person's mood, etc...
What do you think? There's no crazy idea
