Incase you didn't know already, removing wallpaper sucks.

I don't have a steamer. I don't have a heatgun. I'm just using hot water in a spray bottle and a scissors to cut slice it, peel off the top layer and then soak down the second part and then scrape it off with a CD. I'm actually going surprisingly fast, but this still sucks.

END RANT.

It actually works quite well. I have stacks and stacks of unlabeled CD-Rs so I am putting them to use.

just paper over it...problem solved

I am painting the walls.

Peel it off and then throw on some knock-down texture to cover the glue. Or do what I'm doing and just tear down your walls and put up new sheet rock. Replace the wiring and add cat5 wiring while you are at it.

This house is old and doesn't have drywall (is that the same as sheet rock?).. Solid cement or something. Punching it won't break the wall, it'll break your hand.

Materials:

3 gallons hot water
one 22-oz. bottle of wallpaper remover
1/4 cup liquid fabric softener
1 cup white vinegar
2 Tbs. baking soda

Steps:

Using a tool called a paper tiger (perforation tool), perforate the surface of the paper.

Spray this solution in three coats.

Cover the walls in plastic and allow to sit overnight.

The paper should fall of with ease.

That is exactly why I'm tearing down walls and putting up new sheet rock/drywall (yes, they are the same). You house, like mine, probably has lath and plaster walls in addition to knob-and-tubing wiring (old wiring which is not grounded and I've heard is a fire hazard). It's a pain to tear out and if the walls are still in good shape, no need to. But lath and plaster isn't really flat anyway, so most rooms I'm tearing off the 6 layers of wallpaper and paint (just what I can tear off by hand) and then covering it with knock-down texture and a fresh coat of paint.

Some rooms need major remodeling done though, and sheetrock is cheap so I'm (planning to) just tearing the whole wall down.

A razor blade window scraper works well if your careful not to gouge the sheetrock.
