I canceled the cards, but what can they do with my SS number? I'm only 16, can that make a difference on what they can do?

I had it on a piece of paper because I was filling out something and my mother told me over the phone. I should really memorize it.

You're only 16 but call the credit unions.

If somebody ONLY has your SS number it'll be more difficult then if they had your actual card.. but I'd still worry!

Why would he call the credit unions?

I can't knock you too hard for carrying your SS in your wallet, because I did the same thing. I figured out pretty quick that it was stupid as fuck and memorized it in a good two minutes. Even if it was a temporary thing like you said, write over it and tear it up into little pieces. Then throw it down a storm drain or feed it to chickens.

You're only 16, so I don't think they can do much with it.

memorize your CC numbers, bank card numbers, SS numbers, health card number, drivers license number... it sticks with you and then you never have to worry about it.

I'll bring it back tomorrow.

Just need to fill up my Expedition first.

Yeeeaaaahhh... gonna wanna memorize that SS number. It'll take like a minute. Shit, I even know my brother's SS number (sorry Duragezic).

ss #'s are easily found if someone wants them. I would worry more about addresses/phone #'s of loved ones or passwords for any type of accounts.

Can you enter your CC# in retail locations?

The credit card is in my parents name, they just called me and told me that the card had no action on it.

I hope you still canceled the card....

I had my SS card replaced last Fall and it came with a note saying that you should never keep it in your wallet... *checks wallet* Oops. 😱

I had one long ago that said "Invalid if laminated." Years later, I saw a letter in the Q&A section of the AJC newspaper where the editor told a reader that this was not true and they don't know who told the letter writer that it was invalid when laminated. Normally, they do a surprising amount of research for the odd questions they get, but all they had to do was look at the back of a few SS cards to find one explicitly stating so.
