Wall wart polarity question

I have a Radio Shack wall wart that came with an adaptor thing so it will plug into my CD player (replacement because I lost my old wall wart that came with the CD player). However, the adaptor thing can go either way.

How do you set the polarity correctly?

My CD player says on the side (from left to right): - +

Does that mean "-" is on the same side as "TIP" or "plus" is on the same side as "TIP?"

Usually positive is in the center IIRC. Just try it both ways. It won't damage the player to have the polarity backwards for a second or two.
