My mom, at the tender age of 84 has just left her boyfriend and moved into a new appartment. We, and the children are in the process of helping her set up her new place. As you can see in the picture, this is a work in progress. I am looking for suggestions on how to clean up the cable mess under the TV. Something to make it look decent. Thanks.

The picture leaves some question in my mind as to what/ how exactly the TV is hooked up. It appears to be hooked in to a cable line, but then I see what could be a splitter or power injector for an antenna.

TBH, since you mention that it is an apartment, you are pretty much reduced to hiding wires behind furniture unless the management is very permissive...
(Living room area? I am thinking a tallish bookshelf of some flavor under the TV and some flavor of "occasional table" replacing the keyboard stand)

It's a cable hook up. The only wires going to the TV are the coax and the power cable. You are absolutely right, a small tallish piece of furniture below the tv and a vinyl paintable cable tray going down from the tv would make a world of difference. As for the keyboard, she is giving it away. I think I have found something to hide the cable going down from the TV.

I'd either do this or mount it at the correct height with a shelf directly under it. Then I'd drill into the wall and run the wires down to a hole that would be blocked by the shelf. Then you could run the coax cable along the baseboards and no one would see it.

Your mother's neck is going to be hurting looking up at the TV like that.

That's what I am thinking, what should the proper height, be.

And by the way thank you all for all the suggestions.

re: Proper height

From some other material I was looking at, the suggestion is that the top edge of a display should be centered at the line of sight in the preferred seating location.
If you had her sitting in her favorite TV watching spot, then close her eyes and sit comfortably, you could use a laser pointer to find this place on the wall...

(Since most people are usually in some form of recline for TV watching, this can be much higher than you might initially expect)

I'd just pick up a wire cover sleeve that sticks to the wall and run the cables through it to the floor.

I basically did what Kartajan recommended. I measured the height of my head when sitting on my couch. I then mounted it so the bottom bezel was at that height on the wall. My projection screen I didn't have much of an option since my ceiling is like 7'8 where it's mounted and I had big ass speakers to put below it. Luckily it is the perfect height anyways, the bottom is basically where my head is when I'm reclined and watching stuff.

Probably 90% of tv's I see mounted are mounted completely wrong. The "over the fireplace" mounting is the worst thing that ever happened to tv mounting lol.
