Blu-Ray is playing catch up (even though Blu-Ray was developed first) and now there's a lawsuit against Samsung because their player isn't compatible with some of the new features.

To be fair, I think the lawsuit was about the player having serious problems with a number of discs, and the profile issues were a secondary complaint. People will argue whether those extra features make a difference, but it remains that every BD player so far (with the possible exception of the PS3 which can deal with it via fw update) will deal with the profile incompatibility issue. I can understand this (somewhat) if the spec was truly developing, but it certainly seems the profile idea that's causing all the hubub was part of the BDA plan all along, to deal with their incomplete state of their technology.
