First off, I know that this is a blog, but I think that it stands as a viable source considering that they actually show scanned pics of the Schedule A showing the "donation".

As if there weren't enough reasons to dispise Wal-Mart already.

Blog source

On September 28, 2005, GOP House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, known as ?the Hammer? for his hard-nosed political tactics, was forced to step down from his leadership post after he was indicted by a grand jury for his involvement in an illegal scheme to funnel corporate money to Texas Republican legislative candidates. How does Wal-Mart react to DeLay?s indictment and possible jail time? They cut him a check!

There are some discrepancies concerning Wal-Mart?s latest foray into ?pay to play? politics. According to the Wal-Mart PAC?s monthly filing, the transaction with DeLay occurred on September 23, 2005. However, according to the quarterly filing of Tom DeLay?s Congressional Committee, the check was received on September 30, 2005 - two days AFTER the indictments.

When did Wal-Mart write their check to ?the Hammer?? When did the ?exchange? occur? Did the world?s largest corporation have any qualms about funding criminal politicians?

Wal-Mart Watch calls on Wal-Mart?s PAC, notably called the ?Responsible Government PAC,? to cancel its donation and to pledge to stop funding criminals.

Background: According to the National Center for Responsive Philanthropy, the Wal-Mart PAC has rapidly increased its activity in the past decade. In the 1994 cycle, they doled out $110,000 to political candidates and organizations in 1994. In the 2004 cycle, the PAC?s contributions totaled $2.1 million, with $1.6 million going to Republican candidates or organizations.

Interesting they label someone a criminal who hasn't been convicted.

All politicians at that level are crooked in some way.

Can't one be a criminal and not yet be caught? (or convicted)

Man STFU about Republicans already. Noone cares about Republicans but you. In fact, you're probably turning people away from the Democratic party and towards the Republican party. What do the Republicans have to do with Wal-Mart?

People like Wal-Mart because it has everything inside. Its the convenience of shopping that has basically all the merchandise in it. I don't shop there because I don't need to since there are other stores in the area. But in many towns, they have no choice. I would bet that many people who love Wal-Mart and shop there are not Republicans but members of your party, the Demoncats.

Stop crying Republican all the time and look at your incompetant party first.

And yes, as the party swirling this country into the toilet, people are worried about the irresponsible children who call themselves the GOP.

Matter of fact most of the country is. Republicans need to go back to playing GI Joe and let real men and Women run a big complicated thing like the United States. Go fight cobra commander and the evil commies in your room and stop making so much noise if you can't get your way, before the country has to ground more of you.

I think you folks are missing the point: Wal-Mart had an otherwise legal AND ethical business relationship with Tom Delay. If it can be shown that 1) Tom Delay was abusing his power and 2) Wal-Mart, Inc. knew of such abuse, then sure, rip on both all you want. At the present time, neither can be shown as true.

Yes, I know a lot of you think Delay is guilty, but, thankfully, you're in the minority.
