Wal-Mart leaks Xbox 360 pricing

Wal-Mart has apparently leaked the price and launch date of Microsoft's upcoming Xbox 360 console. The game system will reportedly be available on November 4, and as many had expected, it will slip just under the $300 mark and sell for $299.99. Launch titles are slated to sell for $59.99?$10 more than current Xbox games.
If the Xbox 360 launches with a sub-$300 price point, it will almost surely be more affordable than Sony's upcoming PlayStation 3. In fact, Sony CEO Ken Kutaragi has already hinted that the Cell-powered console could cost more than some are expecting:

Speaking to leading Japanese economic web site Toyo Keizai, Kutaragi-san said that players would need to work hard for their PS3, dropping the following bombshell: "Our goal for PlayStation 3 is for consumers to think to themselves, 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."

That's a little crazy.

It's not the price of the console that threatens the X360's launch, it's the selection of titles. As of now there's no major "killer app" for the console as was the case with Halo for Xbox, and major titles like Gears of War will have to wait many months after the console's release.

Perfect Dark isn't a major title?

Don't get me wrong here, the Perfect Dark game intended for GameCube was every Nintendo fan's hope of their own "Halo" for the GC. When the game/company moved over to Microsoft's side, it makes only perfect sense for the game that has been delayed time and again to be one of the launch titles for the 360.

Perfect Dark for the n64 was a solid "sequel" to GoldenEye 007, of which just about every James Bond game made after it couldn't really hold a candle to, yet Perfect Dark could.

I dunno, maybe I haven't been keeping up on things, have they pushed this game back further than 360's launch?

Your argument is as if Halo, one game, would be enough to have for a launch. Well, this is one game, I wouldn't call Halo even enough but this could be just as good, possibly even better because we haven't seen it since n64...

Yeah, I am going to have to say that if RARE has done the previous game worthy, then Perfect Dark will be a perfectly "no pun intended" good killer app.

If it is that price with the media center extender features working well/better than current extenders, they might have another sale.

Halo 3 isn't a major title?

Not out till after the holiday season. It's 2006 release date right?
Perfect Dark 360, now that's a killer app. I had both games, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and actually played Dark a lot more, espically in multiplayer(Laptop Guns in Complex).Cant wait.

Yeah I believe there is going to be a deluxe pack for $360. If the rumors are true I'd get that. The media center functionality looks awesome as does the interface. It's all very slick and I'm glad that the xbox got hacked and gave Microsoft some direction to go with it. IIRC you will be able to stream videos over the ethernet to this correct?

Good price,

BTW, Halo is a terrible game, people only play it because it's one of the few decent titles Xbox has, they dont have a lot of good games like Playstation.

halo is a fantastic game. Bouzouki thats what you think. no wonder it got 100 million revenue in the first day alone.

You got it wrong, Halo is a fantastic game, halo 2 generated $125 mil + on its opening day due to media hype.

I suppose he thinks doom 3 was a great game though.

Anyways was anyone really surprised that it would cost that much, the first one did. It sucks for PS3 though, since it seems that it will considerably more expensive and realesed next year.

Rollo..I just thought of about it, but with all the money you spend on your computer, why not upgrade your speaker setup?

No, Bouzouki is right as usual:

Halo gets 9.7/10 on Gamespot

Not only is this easily the best of the Xbox launch games, but it's easily one of the best shooters ever, on any platform[/L]

Yeah, nobody liked Halo.

Read the post, I never said no one liked the game.

Ever hear of an opinion

He is to busy stressing his GTX SLI setup with no AA/AF to be bothered with speakers.

^ fanboy

The 360 will hardly have better graphics then a $1000 gaming PC, but for $299 I dare you to make a PC with comparable specs or power. A great value for those that can't afford a state of the art PC.

Fanboy?

Wow, your weird.

Point out where in my post I made a fanboy comment, thanks.

I said good price.

Oh, and $1000 doesn't get you much, a single GTX costs $500, guess thats half your $1000.

Add up FX-55's, 4000+, 3800+, 3700+ and the other needed components and your WELL over $1000.

Hardly have better graphics? Thats laughable considering $1000 will probably get you a simple 3000+,6800GT, motherboard, HD, case, value memory, and PSU

$1000 does not get you the best, not by far.

Xbox > $1000 PC value wise by a long shot and probably better performance wise considering the CPU and GPU it uses (R500)

EDIT: I think the Xbox360 will use 4AA by defualt on all games.

Because it sounds pretty good? Z2200s pack the bass wallop, Bose mediamates make great satellites.

This was sort of an experiment. 😉

I would be happy to.

Here. I meant to suggest you are a Sony fanboy. Both the Xbox and the PS2 have great games. Not just Sony. You failed to notice the bulk of what I quoted you I guess. I apologize for not removing "good price" from the quote. It was such a small part of it I hardly found it to be the emphasis

I said good price.

Yes, which is fine for the 360. But you will have to forgive me if the statement that the Xbox does not have good games like the PS strikes me as a tad biased.

Perhaps, but with

1GB Corsair RAM
Antec Sonata II case
80GB HDD
X800XL
Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
NEC CD/DVD Burner
Epox Nvidia Nforce 4 Ultra MOBO

on a $1000 budget you can have a pretty decent gaming PC. Certainly a power powerful gaming platform that what we will see from the 360. Of course while the 360 can not match this, for 299$ it still offers a superb value.

Originally posted by: BouZoukiAdd up FX-55's, 4000+, 3800+, 3700+ and the other needed components and your WELL over $1000.

Actually, a 3700+ is possible with AMD's recent price cut on their cpu's on a $1000 budget. But while the other CPU's you posted are quite nice, for a 7800 GTX you will run into a bottleneck before long once 2.2 ghz is achived on A64 cpu's.

Originally posted by: BouZouki[/i]Hardly have better graphics? Thats laughable considering $1000 will probably get you a simple 3000+,6800GT, motherboard, HD, case, and PSU.

See above. The specs I posted were from a selection I put together on www.newegg.com

$1000 does not get you the best, not by far.

No, but it gets you in the sweet spot. Which is more performance then the next gen platorms will offer.

Xbox > $1000 PC value wise by a long shot and probably better performance wise considering the CPU and GPU it uses (R500)

Actually, while I think the 360 is a superb value for the price the cpu was a very poor choice. Read one of AAtechs more infamous articles for that.

I do not wish to get in a large arguement here. Leave it be and there will be no need to continue further.

Get over it, I like Playstation's game's a whole lot better.

Xbox doesn't have much going for them, never did IMO as far as games go.

I bought an Xbox, ended up selling it.

ROFL, your trying to say THAT setup can Match the Xenon CPU and R500 GPU?

The Xbox is certainly better.

A) The Xbox will probably have better graphics, it's more powerfull than that setup
B) The Xbox is a better value by far.

Your argument sucks, first you say the Xbox360 will have worse graphics than your X800XL.

The R500 > X850XTPE > X800XL.

Now the R500 has 32 pipes, i'm not sure what it has, but the R520 is supposed to have 32 pipes and the R500 is supposed to be more powerfull than the R520.

Your XL seems like crap compared to the R520, etc.

I cant comment on the Xenon but it uses three cores compared to the 3700+'s one allowing future games to be multithreaded, once again improving performance.

I also failed to mention HDTV support for games, 720P will make things look even better on our HDTV.
