Waking up during the "correct" part of the sleep cycle

I'm sure most people have read at least a little about how waking up during different portions of the sleep cycle will affect how tired you are in the morning. Everyone has experienced some rough mornings versus morning where you feel great, with no changes in how long or well you sleep.

So does anyone use any of the alarm clocks or devices that are supposed to help you wake up curing the "right" cycle? I'm starting to look at some options and I'm hoping some of you guys can share some personal experiences with what you may have tried

I know there are a few products that work with iphone apps, but you typically have to wear some device on a headband. Although the reviews I have read are generally positive, I don't want to wear a headband whilst sleeping.

Sleep cycle alarm clock for the iPhone. Plug it in, put it under your fitted sheet just below your pillow. It works great and I had a noticeably better sleep when using it.

The one I really want though is the alarm clock that just makes it slowly brighter in your room.

I wonder if there is an alarm that combines both features. Or maybe that wouldn't work :hmm:

I dont see this working well for couples. My wife would probably get pissed if my alarm woke me up at the end of my cycle and it woke her up in the middle of hers.

I played with the sleep cycle app when I was single and it worked ok, but I wouldn't even try it with another person in the bed.

This thing is wonderful. I've been using it for a few months and it's really great. Well worth the steep entry price.

Starts to brighten around 30 minutes before you have to wake up. I have it set on bird chips, which start a few minutes before the 30 minute timer is done.

Cool, I'll check that out. Price isn't a problem, something that actually works would be well worth double or triple that

I was coming in here to post this. I was looking at one yesterday because amazon had discounted them. I hesitated until today, and the price went back up. :(

Don't know, but my body's apparently gotten quite consistent at waking up about 18 minutes before the alarm goes off. It's happened several times just in the past two weeks. Weird.

Cheaper version. :awe:

I have an alarm clock. It always wakes me up at the wrong cycle. The "right" cycle would be after about 10 or 11 am. But it wakes me up at 8 so I'm not late for work :(

I always feel fine when I get the right amount of sleep. I need about 7.5 hours. Seems like that's all that I really need.

It seems like the devices that sense your body movement can get a bit extreme. I mean, I'd wear the headband if it REALLY does a great job, but maybe I'll just start with the "sun"light one and see how well that works

That timer doesn't slowly brighten the room as a sunrise would. But it doesn't matter. I have the phillips Wake-Up Light and it doesn't help me at all. Everybodys different.

Nope.

But my eyes are closed, and most of my brain is switched off at the time, so it won't snap me awake anyway. :)

I might check out that Philips light. Same thing happens to me, sometimes I get 6-6.5hrs and feel fine, but then I get 7-8 and feel like crap. Just random and I hate it.

I have only had maybe one solid night of sleep in years. I wake up multiple times a night and most the time I'm pretty sure I don't even really sleep(REM sleep).
