WESTLAKE, Ohio (AP) -- A bar waitress checking to see if a customer was legally old enough to drink looked down to see a familiar photo.

It was her own.

The 22-year-old waitress, whose name was not released, called police last week and said she had been handed her own stolen driver's license by a woman trying to prove she was 21.

The woman, who became suspicious of the delay as the waitress went to call police, fled the Moosehead Saloon, but her companion provided her name.

Maria Bergan, 23, of Lakewood, was charged Sunday night with identity theft and receiving stolen property. She was arrested at her home in suburban Cleveland.

The waitress said she had lost her wallet July 9 at a bar in Lakewood.

"The odds of this waitress recovering her own license defy calculation," police Capt. Guy Turner said Monday.

Lower than the average I'd guess, she used up all of her luck on finding the license :p

Anyone else wondering wtf a 23 year old would need a fake license for to buy alcohol? It's not like she was using a stolen credit card or she was under 21.

People change looks over time. My license picture taken when I was 16 (20 now) looks different from me now. I get told that all the time when asked for ID.

she probably didn't have any kind of ID ...

if she's 23 but has no way to prove it at the time, the only way is to use a fake ID unless she wants to be the DD

the 23 year old could've been stealing her identity...

if i ever got my ID like that, i think the hot coffee i was carrying would slip into the customers face.

Alright my hometown makes it in the news! I heard this on the radio last night.

EDIT: Wow, this is actually really cool, CNN exposure. Small world.

I saw that this morning and chuckled. It makes it all that much stranger that she was 23 so didn't even need to use a fake ID in the first place.

Criminals really are stupid. Next to this article was a story about a guy in Elyria (a nearby town) who took his pot plant to the police station to complain that it had been stolen, but he recovered it.

I originally had the same thought, however the woman reports that her wallet was stolen, which I assume contained credit cards. You cannot show an ID at a restaurant that says one name, then hand them a CC with another name on it.

But the article doesn't mention her using her credit card to pay for anything... now that would've been hilarious to see...

Actually the stupid woman is from Lakewood, so we're all clear here. Westlake is home of smart people, where we recognize our own IDs!

WTF...If she was already 21, why would she need a stolen license?
