Waiting for some thing to over take the E8500.

The E8500 has been schooling the sub $250 game benchmarks for like the last 6 months. And now the damn thing is like $180 and its still the best dual core gaming CPU for being under $250. I keep putting off a CPU pyurchase because im thinking that eventuall, soon i thought, this CPU would be toppled and id be in the dust with a formerly up to date chip. Its still on top, and im getting antsy. Is some thing going to come along for less then $200-250 that will finally justify my wait? Also, whats the best gaming chipset for a single Nvidia video card? And mind that i am not going to be doing any over clocking, as wasteful to you as that may sound.

I'm not sure what the problem is, they've already dropped the price on the E8500's by nearly $100. As far as I know, the E8600 is the fastest dual-core Intel plans on releasing, at least for LGA775.

The E8500 is a great purchase. I agree with myocardia on this one. Also, I honestly don't think Intel will be cutting the price of the E8600 any time soon if any at all. The x10 multiplier is a premium and a luxury they want only few to afford. :roll:

Yeah I'm not sure what you're waiting for. This is about as far as it goes for Core2 chips in terms of speed.

I guess i was waiting to see if any of the other chips would be driven down in price, and thats seeming unlikely for the near future. few months or so. Some time between now and tax return time, or the soonest i get an infusion of cash, ill go for it. If it happens sooner rather then later, I'm probably getting the e8500.

In 6 months I'm going to buy an E8600, a 850w OCZ GameXtream PSU and 2 GeForce GTX Core 216s. And then I'm going to sit on that for 2 years (yeap, rrriiiiiggggghhhhhtttt I hear you saying).
