Waiting for my Notebook to come.

OK I ordered a Lenovo Thinkpad T430 last Wednesday and I'm waiting to get it later today. Man I hate waiting to get stuff. Anyway I'm going wipe Windows 10 off of it and install Manjaro Linux. Now I'm thinking of doing an update and backup of Windows 10 first before installing Linux on it in case I need or want to sell the laptop later on. But then again I don't want to waste disk space on my ext HDDs for something I may never use.

What are your thoughts on this?

Why not get another HDD/SSD to install Manjaro Linux to? Keep the original HDD with Windows 10. Put it back in if you decide to sell it later on.

As long as you have a version of Windows 10 activated on the laptop, you should be able to wipe the HDD and reinstall Windows 10 anytime in the future (when you want to sell).
If you want a fast way to recover Windows 10, then having an disk image stored somewhere is a good idea.
Another option would be to create a new partition on your HDD as large as possible and install linux alongside windows until your SSD arrives, then just remove the HDD (and the linux partition) and store it for when you want to sell your laptop.

Thanks. Chances are however I'll keep this notebook long enough that it's resell value basically becomes zero.

Well I picked up my Thinkpad T430 and I'm typing from Manjaro Linux off a USB stick. So far everything works. I swear this laptop looks brand new.

Awesome! No driver issues? I know the wifi chips can sometimes give me a hard time on laptops in linux, I usually use Xubuntu or more recently Ubuntu Mate.

Nope and I installed Manjaro to it just fine, no issues at all so far. The screen is 1366x768 which I know some folks will bitch about, but I don't see what the problem is as it looks perfectly fine to me on a 14.1" screen.

The only real problem is the dog slow 5400 RPM HDD in the thing. If nothing else I'm to get a SSD ASAP. And perhaps some more RAM as well.
