In my bio lab last week my teacher told us that for certain biology uses, centrifuges of up to 80,000 rpms are used. :Q I'm sure someday, someone will be crazy enough to make a CPU fan with that kind of rotational speed.
1 small caveat, the centrifuges have to be kept in empty concrete rooms and at floor level because if something breaks it flies pretty fast. Imagine if the tip of an 80 mm fan broke? A quick calculation tells me that it would be travelling at .08m*2*Pi*80,000/60=670 m/s or ~1500 mph :Q :Q :Q
