The whole late night situation has soured me on leno. I don't plan on watching him ever again.

So you are saying that people are too damned lazy or stupid to change the channel and just watch whatever is on after the 10PM shows by default? When I was a kid I watched Carson almost every night right up until I was almost 30 when he retired. I never watched the programming on before, or the news. I switched over to Carson because he was who I wanted to watch.

The only reason shows like SVU had good ratings were people had been watching them since NBC had a good 8-9 line up with shows like Fraiser & Friends. ANY new show at 10 would have bombed. People are acting like Jay was walking into a time slot that followed a hugely popular show every night. Conan need to fuck off, Leno should retire. Then NBC could figure out how to get Craig Killborn to come back to TV and have him host a new 11:35 show on NBC.

In all honesty if anyone remembers back to the writer's strike, the stuff that Conan/Colbert/Stewart were doing was freaking hilarious.

Carson wanted to leave. Leno didn't. You're not honestly going to tell me that Leno should give up a multi-million dollar gig just to let Conan in. Would you?

I've watched Conan's show a few times, back when he was still doing Late Night. I always found his show to be boring. He lacks charisma on air. Conan is a good, witty and intelligent writer. I stress writer. That's where he belongs. He couldn't hold it against Letterman, and the show probably still would have bombed even if Leno had just retired to begin with for that same reason. You're up against two titans who know how to appeal to a wide audience.

Why people are making such a fuss over it is a mystery to me though. That's how television works. It's a vary unstable business. Nobody's job is ever 100% safe, especially if you're on air.

Sorry I wasn't clear, when I mentioned Craig I was talking about Killborn not his replacement Furgerson. I don't think Killborn's a drunk Scottish, but I could be wrong...
