As of today, 9/4 I got this message from Ajump.com! I had preordered the board 8/27.
They changed the release date from 8/30 to 9/13.

Dear Customer:

We want to inform you that the Asus P4S8X that you order is in stock now. We will process your order and ship it out today.

Thank you for your patient!

Ok well maybe their grammer isn't the best but hey, they rock!

I got the exact same e-mail from Ajump. It was quite a surprise! I just checked the order status and it says, "Released to warehouse".

Released to warehouse = "This message indicates that we have completed the verification of your order and are currently preparing your order to be shipped. Orders released to our warehouse will usually be shipped within 24 hours."

So it does indeed appear they got a shipment of the boards today and apparently all of them were already accounted for via pre-orders.

I wonder if myinfinity.com has them yet? I pre-ordered from them about 1 1/2 weeks agi and haven't gotten anything since an email the next day saying it was backordered.

If not, I guess I will see if ajump has any more available.

Just placed an order with ajump.com! I hope they have enough to go around! Man I can't wait to get this PC together!! 😀

Woo Hoo

I preordered mine from Knowledge Micro earlier today expecting it not to ship till the end of next week. Of course, I just looked in my inbox to find UPS Shipping verfication 🙂 I shall receive mine on Friday!!!

With my Radeon 9700 arriving tommorrow, it would seem this will be a very good weekend. In true anandtech tradition, I will post my results as soon as I can assemble the new beast. Good Luck to all who ordered. Three Cheers for DDR 400 and AGP 8X enjoyment!!!

Yup, I just got my shipment confirmation a couple minutes ago (Ajump).

"Dear Customer,

Your order has been shipped! This e-mail is automatically generated.
Below please find a confirmation of all the details."

Followed by the usual order number, tracking data, etc... I chose 2nd day Fed EX, so mine should arrive on Friday too!

" With my Radeon 9700 arriving tommorrow, it would seem this will be a very good weekend."

You are in the EXACT same situation I am. I have all my other hardware except my 9700 Pro (which should be here tomorrow or Friday) and the P4S8X. I can't wait to get it up and running!

I'm in the same boat as you guys except I'm not sure If I'll get a board or not. My Radeon 9700 Pro retail from newegg should arrive on Friday!

Anyone know if the ASUS P4S8X from ajump.com is a retail boxed board??

Anyone know if the ASUS P4S8X from ajump.com is a retail boxed board??

I e-mailed Ajump before I placed my original order asking them this very question. They told me the board would come retail box.

Have a question for you guys who are getting this board,

about the weird raid setup, it seems like they are going for a 1 ide 2 sata solution here. I'm not exactly sure a) what this means or b) how i have to configure my hd's for this.

I have 2x80gig WD SE's and I was thinking about running them in RAID... can I just get a dual ata133 ide cable and set one as master 1 as slave? Also, if I decide not to run RAID on the 2 hd's can i still use the ide to support my 2 hd's?

Yes iMage, you can use one Raid IDE channel to do RAID-0 but you are running the risk of losing everything if one of the drive failed.

Just to let everyone know, as of noon eastern time, Knowledge Micro still had the P4S8X in stock (or so they told me). Mine is supposed to ship out today for overnight delivery. They are more expensive than most other places ($152) and rape you on overnight delivery ($45), but they have them and they are retail, boxed versions.

Ajump does not have any more boards as they have shipped all they had to pre-order customers. They expect their next shipment next week. Also myinfinity.com hasn't gotten any (or at least got less than 25, since I was #25 on their wait list and didn't get one) and doesn't expect any until "middle of next week."

iMage, lundog22 beat me to the answer. But let me add something to his comment about RAID 0 (which comes from my direct experience!). All that has to happen, for whatever reason, is just one stripe getting corrupted (and trust me, it happens!), your progs/data are toast. :disgust:

So if you do go with RAID 0 and value your data, backup frequently!

Just called ajump.com and they are out of stock! I cancelled my order and placed another order with knowledgemicro.com. Does anyone know how fast these guys are with shipping? I hope it gets shipped out today!

Update: Just called and they said they still have some in stock and it will ship out today!! 😀 😀 I won't get it until Monday though because I didn't want to pay for next day and chose 2nd instead.

I just looked at knowledge micro's prices: $165.85 seems pretty expensive compared to other places. I want it fast but not that fast. 😉

I'm a glutton for punishment so I'll wait it out (for who knows how long)

I'm just using standard PC2100 133MHz ram. I already have three sticks of 256MB and I don't want to buy anymore right now. It's crucial and a lot of people have it overclocked to 170ish. I know mine does 150 but I never tried taking it higher before. I figure that's good enough for now since I just shelled out $1150 for a new 20.1" LCD.

I got the 333. from Googlegear. It supposedly overclocks well so if the release version of the P4S8X (or later bios upgrades) turns out to be stable at 400, I can always try it.

I picked up one stick of CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series CMX512-2700C2 PC2700 DDR RAM 333MHz w/ Heat Spreader.

If it turns out the board will support PC3200 without any problems them I may upgrade down the road.

I like to play it on the safe side. 🙂

Admitedly Asus' P4S8X has a great feature-set, but frankly I'm surprised that so many of you seem to be jumping the gun and buying it before it's tested here and until it's been out at least a little while - subjected to 'real-world testing'!

I don't mean to be 'a wet blanket', but so far the only testing of the P4S8X that I've seen was by ocworkbench, who liked the board, but found it not to be stable when attempting to run at DDR400 (using PC3200). Furthermore, extremetech's very recent benches didn't bode well for the SiS648 board they included in their SuperGuide to Pentium 4 High-Performance Motherboards. I realize that they tested Shuttle's SiS648 board and not the Asus, but even so, I think 'the jury is still out in the case of SiS648 boards'.

Just my $.02

IntelConvert,

Why couldn't you have posted that before I went and jumped into the bleeding edge crowd? If you don't know what I'm talking about, look here.
