Hello Everyone,

Newbie have been stalling on getting my new gaming PC for 1 month+. I had decided I wanted to go with the E8500 over the E6850 and was waiting for the release. Now I am hearing rumors the E8500 is being delay a month or so.

Should I wait or just go for the E8400.

My friends are questioning whether I will ever get a new PC.

Thanks

the E8500 is 166 mhz faster (3.16 vs 3.0) and is MSRP 250 instead of 180... the E8400 is currently sold at 210-230 despite the MSRP being 180...
Bottom line is, I wouldn't wait.

If you do wait for the 8500 to be released, the 8400 may go down in price. The 8400 at MSRP is almost definitely a better buy than the 8500 at MSRP, but the 8400 isn't at MSRP right now. The release of the E8500 may push the price down closer to MSRP though. This is just speculation, and the difference in price probably wouldn't be that much anyway, so you might as well buy it now.

Where is it that you get that $180 MSRP/ I thought I saw a site that said $186 in 1000 quantity (dealer price) and at only 10% markup that would be $209, which is what mwave was selling them for last I saw.. Show me a link please if I am wrong.

Welcome to the forums!!

I also say, get the E8400 now, the price won't go down very much.

Wait for the 2.66 Yorkfields :D lol but seriously just get the E8400 already, no one endorses the E8500 here, 166mhz higher core clock for like $60-80 more isn't worth it.

Its hard to say, each has a task.

Main work = C2D@3200 (sig needs updating)

Main play = Q6600@3320 (X1900XT video)
Main encode = Q6600@3510 (now at 3550) (X1300se video)
Sons main = X3210@3000 (X1300se video)

Other quads are usually F@H dedicated. (6200 nvidia video)
The rest are only for lan parties now, turned off to save electric $$$ I would sell them all, but I don't want to do the paypal and shipping game.

wow... exactly 100$ extra... and there isnt a mobo in existance that couldnt OC that beast of e8400 to e8500 speeds..

The only point I see for the e8500 is that it has a higher multiplier, which means higher overall OC. Intel KNOWS that, which is why they chose to price it so much higher.
