Wait a second. I thought the song "We are Siamese" was about CATS being naughty.

There's a live action "Lady and the Tramp" coming out, without the cat song. We had a Siamese when I was a kid and he was VERY naughty. The little dipshit learned how to turn on faucets. Every time we left on a trip we had to close all of the bathroom doors.

I have two cats now. They also like to misbehave on occasion. But it seems that it's been an offensive tune for a long time.

My bad, I guess.

I heard it was being removed because of the large number of Siamese twins that visit WDW each day through make-a-wish would be offended by the song.

There's really nothing in the lyrics or the action that requires a rewrite. The arrangement and singing obviously need an overhaul.

We are Siamese if you please
We are Siamese if you don't please
We are former residents of Siam
There are no finer cat than I am
Do you see what I see with my eyes?
People have been baking up some pies
Peeping jumping up upon their window
Though delicious spice we could get into
Who is that who is living in that wire house
It must be a bird because it's not a mouse
If we're sneakin' up upon it carefully
There will be some bird for you and some for me
Do you seeing that thing swimming round and round?
Maybe we could reaching in and make it drown
If we're sneakin' up upon it carefully
There will be some fish for you and some for me

Dumbo, on the other hand…

My kids were watching the old Peter Pan the other day and I noticed the 'What Made the Red Man Red?' song that I had forgot about. Old Disney was pretty racist.

BS if you ask me.
You liked the song?

I always thought it was so stupid it was cringe worthy.

"Siam" is actually Thailand.

Thai people don't really look or act or sound like that. It's a strange Chinese stereotype applied to all things "Asian." That song was always dumb.

Even if it was an accurate depiction, it's still dumb. Not catchy. Should have been cut before the original theatrical release, but maybe they were trying to extend the runtime.

Why was Dumbo more offensive?

Maybe I need to re-watch it, but the crow's dialect and behavior were definitely inspired by real people.

I've met lots of Thai people and the cats in Lady and the Tramp are waaaaay off.

Thailand was never very fond of being called "Siam" by Westerners... similar to Myanmar vs. Burma.

My understanding is that they strongly reject Western media with overt stereotypes or negative portrayals of Thailand to the point of banning much if it.

"One Night in Bangkok" by Chess in apparently banned Thailand. The King and I is pretty offensive there since it's all about Westerners imposing their idea of civilized behavior on the Thais they presume to be uncivilized.

Getting to knooooow yooooou!

It's the delivery and attempt to make the cats Thai that is the problem. Portraying naughty Siamese cats shouldn't be a problem. The lyrics aren't inherently racist.
