It's all a matter of opinion.
The T40 is 1 inch thick while the 8500 is 1.5 inches thick.
Plus the 8500 is freaking 8 pounds! T40 is only 4.5.
With a 9 cell battery people have reported up to 7 hours of real world usage.

In my opinion the T40 > 8500 ... easliy
