Wahoo! Dad made it to thanksgiving!

Me and my girl were fixing a nice thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings at my place.

Dad has been way in the dumps since mom died last christmas. So I asked and asked him to at least come over for some thanksgiving dinner with us (he only lives 6 miles away) no go, he's reluctant, doesn't want to celbrate.

So I pick up mom's stuffing recipie today and ask him again - "it will be good for you"

He called back later and said he would like to join us.

So I had some resemblence of family on turkey day and I saw my dad smile for the first time in a long time. It felt so good to bring a little joy/ritual into his life even though he is really down.

Man I'm glad he could make it. Not only that, I needed him to make the gravy.

I'm thankful that I could do something for my dad.

My dad died a few years ago and I still miss him. Enjoy your father as much as possible while you can. If he is down involve him in activities to get him out and around.

I second your sentiments kind sir. Just this last Monday marked two years ago that my father passed from Lou Gehrig's Disease. I'd do anything in this world to have one last Thanksgiving with the man. Cherish those around you while you still have a chance. You'll regret it if you don't.
