I waged 😛 an all out war on spywares...damn those things are tough to get out

I used

1- Ad-aware (basically useless and slow)
2- Spyware Search and Distroy 1.2 (useless to some extent)
3- Spyware Doctor (excellent, found 195 files with like 30+ IE components on my machine)
4- Then final attack was with Spyware Search and Distroy 1.3, it found 1 plug in

Now system is ok without any pop ups

Why did you run two versions of Spyware (sic) Search and Distroy (sic)? Running Ver. 1.3 would have sufficed.

Seriously... Spyware has crippled the family PC (lil bro and sis) and its basically impossible to get out. In the mean time I have them using Firefox, and its problem free.

Amen on the Spyware Doctor. Its a wonderful program. Its wicked fast compared to everything else i've tried, and hasn't missed anything that adaware didn't also miss, so I think its pretty thorough.

firefox doesn't stop everything. i use firefox and still get ~ 5 pieces of spyware a week.

you ARE running a firewall, yes?

I run a firewall and Firefox, and get zero popups, spyware, or viruses a year.
