I'm shocked at how lopsided the poll is for waffles... I thought pancakes would be slightly ahead!

Waffles: crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, complete with syrup and butter pockets. What more could you want?

Pancakes: Flat and lifeless. Absorbs delicious syrup into its bland core and annihilates it. Presumably sending it to a parallel universe. Lumberjacks only eat them because they have nowhere to plug in a waffle iron in the middle of the forest. Poor lumberjacks.

Crepes: The fruity, pasty white European version of pancakes. Devoid of all flavour. The French waved them during the Battle of Paris to surrender to the Germans.

Arn't pancakes and crepes the same thing? Crepe is just the French word for pancake.

I'll take pancakes over waffles, but, really they're both pretty awesome especially if home made.

I own 3 waffle-makers, so I guess I'm biased :awe:

That's because no one needs a 'pancake maker' to make pancakes that aren't terrible.

OTOH, waffles require effort to make them good, therefore, they fail.

Pancakes are thick & fluffy, crepes are like soft tortillas, only thinner. You usually fill them with cream & fruit, or other sweet stuff like chocolate & fruit & make a little burrito out of them.

It's hard to go wrong with Belgian waffles, but when done right, pancakes and ESPECIALLY crepes are superior. There's a lot to go wrong with the latter two though.

Pancakes = waffles > crepes
Waffles with real freshly whipped creme, fruit, and real maple syrup > pancakes with real maple syrup > crepes with fresh fruit > waffles with flavored HFCS > pancakes with flavored HFCS.

How did it take this many posts before someone pointed out that it depends on the type of syrup?

Crepes done right are incredible, but I've never been able to replicate the ones you get done by a professional...you'd thin it'd be easy, it's just a flat, flexible pancake essentially, but there's some magic that goes on with it. I've seen a lot of Nutella-filled versions in European street food videos on Youtube, that stuff looks amazing!

Since they are all essentially the same ingredients, it comes down to physical size, texture and mouth feel.

I prefer the crisp texture of waffles.
Non-crisp waffles .

Pancakes.

Waffles just piss me off, mainly because they aren't pancakes.

This is essentially my thinking. Waffles are so easy, I mean even an Eggo waffle is decent, but doing a pancake right is much more difficult and so much more satisfying when it hits.

Buy the perfect pancake maker. Walmart. Seriously, that stupid thing actually works quite well.

Mmmmm .... I loves me some iHop.
Let's put this in perspective. McDicks makes better pancakes than iHop. Burger King makes better french toast. Hotel lobby waffles are infinitely better than iHop's waffles.
