Yup Williams was screwed out of the MVP b/c he wasn't a media whore. I think overall the system works, b/c if you set hard limits to get in stat wise, then no exceptions could be made. If you set the limit for 3K hits, then a guy who had 2700 (like Bill Buckner) and yet a .289 hitter would never be voted in. Funny how if Buckner had made that play he might be in the HOF right now, hmm.Originally posted by: PoPPeR
i really hate the way baseball does a lot of things. Especially hall of fame voting. It works to some degree, but there are people out there that cast vote ballots that should not have that responsibility. To this day they've still never had a unanimous entry, how can people like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, and all the other greatest of all time not be voted unanimously? Personal grudges should never play a part in this kind of crap, ala Ted Williams MVP voting back in the day. (for those unfamiliar with the story, Ted Williams won the triple crown, which is leading the league in average, home runs, and rbi, yet finished one point behind the MVP in voting because one writer hated him so he left him completely off his top 10 ballot. If the writer had listed him even 10th just to be an a$$hole, Williams still would have won it).
Yes they would be worth some nice cash, I'd say anywhere from 200-400 bucks if you could get it certified.Originally posted by: kage69
So let's say Wade gave a little cousin of his a Sox hat, glove, and ball (all autographed) as a birthday present way back when he still played for Boston. Would it be safe to assume these items are worth a chunk of money now?

Yup, Mattingly was great for 3 years, no doubt and did give Boggs a run. I would be up for Donnie Baseball getting into the Hall, he was an awesome player before his career was ended by injury.Originally posted by: dman
Wow, I'm surprised Jim Rice didn't get in...
edit, and mattingly too, he gave Boggs a run for his money a few seasons that I can recall.

For the whole deal? That's it? :frown: Screw that.
Bah, who cares, he's still going into the HOF as a Red Sox. He never won a batting title, nor had anywhere near his 200+ hit seasons with the Sox (his best in 5 season with NY was 169) for NYY. Anyone can buy an old man who's not in his prime anymore if you have enough cash, just look at Randy Johnson and Kevin Brown.Originally posted by: Muadib
What Red soxs fan could forget when Boggs rode around on the horse at Yankee Stadium.🙂 I loved that moment!!!
Yeah it's ridiculous he wasn't in earlier... his stats are better than many current 2B in the HOF, of course different eras but still...Originally posted by: PlatinumGold
the fact that it took ryan sandberg three tries to get into the HOF is a joke. he clearly deserves to be in. one of the best 2nd baseman of all time. highest fielding %age at his position all time and one of the better hitting 2nd baseman. what is not to like.
