but my question is different. i know there's the graphire (regular) and intuous (professional) lines. my brother is a fairly good artist and i wanted to get him one of these pads so that he could use his computer to draw. i would get the graphire, but im concerned whether he'll "outgrow" it and need the features provided by the intuous line that are absent in the graphire line.

i dont want to make the wrong decision (especially since these things cost a lot of money). im guessing he would use this with photoshop and that the paintings would be fairly detailed (at least initially).

thanks everyone.

if he's really into it, get him the nicer one. either tomshardware or anandtech had a review of a few. the nicer ones are better at recording pressure, even brush angle.

Is he going to be using art programs like Painter and such to create his artwork 100%? Then you should spend the extra money on the Intuos. If he is going to scan in artwork he has already penciled/inked/etc. and make adusjtments with Photoshop, then the Graphire would probably be just fine. The only difference between the two is the Intuos has more sensitivity and more pressure levels. If you are using a program that simulates using real art supplies, then the extra sensitivity is great.

I have a Graphire. It is an older model (1). It has worked fine for photoshopping for the past four years. The pen broke on me recently and I have been thinking about buying a new one.
