Lately I've noticed this happening, and it's really beginning to get to me. And I also noticed that at the rate my SETI was going, it would have taken around 40 hours for a single unit ... slower than my 262.5MHz Cyrix (running the 350MHz K6-2).

I can't think of anything, except that I tried to get ATA33 going here, update this and that, etc... well mainly some VIA BS. It didn't seem to have any effect (still only regular PIO-4 mode transfer speeds, etc).

But ever since then, MP3s have skipped irregularly (never seems to happen, especially considering I have 3dnever (winamp supports it) :p), noticed annoying kinds of lag, etc...

Think that this ATA33 thing could be the culprit? It's really beginning to annoy me, and my floppy drive died on me too.. do you think I could have somehow messed that up too?

Thanks in advance for any thoughtul input..

Hmmm well I installed some other BS and I got my "generic-blahblahblah" back in place (as the disk drive) and some of the weird lag seems to have been cured..

I guess my system is not capable of ATA33 transfers (perhaps primitive cables?)... I've seen 15MB/second though (HD Tach) and 9ms.. is that still within sub-ATA33 standards or what?

...Boot time seems pretty damn fast.. how much would ATA33/66/100 improve that though? Seems that it is only a matter of seconds till '98 boots, and maybe a minute for 2000 ...

Your hard drive throughput has nothing to do with the type of connection, unless your throughput is higher than what the connection can handle, therefore limiting it. Don't worry about it.

"..." I use them too if you didn't notice! don't know why.. I seem to like the "sound" of writing when you do this...< :)

anywho RSI, u didn't need to jump on him soo much.

AND "Stop being an ass." that reminded me of "That 70's Show." man that show rocks.. Red Forman rules!

now for your problem, WHERE did you get that cable? didn't you say before that it was from an old computer? if so, try a new(er) cable that you know for sure supports ATA33. you shouldn't see these problems when it comes to enabling ATA33.
