Call me old-fashioned, but i want the classic non-aero themes and windows, and they are gone. I had them in W7 beta - but now even with disabling glass/aero i dont get the classic Windows style anymore. Why?

because the "classic" no-areo theme belongs in the recycle bin. By not using the Areo/glass theme you're missing out on part of the advancement of the Windows Os which is off loading cpu power to run the GUI to the GPU.
I former aquantence would overclock and do everything he could to tweak his computer to get the most speed he could possibly think he could get out of it, but he would then use the windows classic look and negate the benefits to his "speed" that Areo actually netted him.

Aero is just a theme. Switching to classic won't slow you down; it's still handled by the GPU. In fact, it may speed you up a little if you have integrated graphics or a really slow GPU.

I think I understand where you're going with that statement, but for the most part it ends up not making any sense. Aero never made anything faster. :)

The "Aero" theme isn't all about increasing the performance of Windows 7. It never was.
There is more underneath the hood that has to deal with how Aero works and how Windows manages memory in the graphics department. Think GDI(+), Direct3D, Direct2D, WDDM, etc.

There are always those who prefer the classic view, I know I do. Keeps me focused on the actual work at hand and not the 'awesomeness' of how it's displayed. :)
