W7 & ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe: Weird clicking sound during audio playback

I'm currently using W7s default drivers for my NFORCE2 mobo. AFAIK, there are no SoundStorm drivers available. During audio playback, regardless of program, there is a lot of static and clicking. Music is generally unlistenable.

Where should I start?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I get clicking on my laptop, when its muted and sounds are supposed to happen it clicks... very weird

Just for grins, if you have a spare sound card that is supported in W7 (are there any?), try it and see if you get the same thing. The point here being to see whether it's a hardware or software issue (more likely software, but what the hell).
