My computer was infected with the w32.jeefo virus and it messed up my registery. It Moved the svchost.exe file and now my computer won't even boot up. I can't even get into safe mode. I just wanted to know if it is possible to run regedit in dos and get rid of this problem. Any help would be awesome.

Thanks:confused:

My practical advice is to throw the hard drive into a healthy computer (that has antivirus software installed, configured and updated), run a no-holds-barred antivirus scan on the infected drive, then rescue whatever data files you can't live without, delete its partition(s) and shut down.

Now reinstall Windows on it. Afterwards, put it back in the system that's got custody of your data files, move them back to the drive, and there you go. Or burn them to CD or DVD if they'll fit. Try to get your defenses up better next time around. Firewall hardware, firewall software, and up-to-date, fully-configured antivirus software, plus all the Windows patches it needs, are a good start. Reducing or eliminating risky behaviors, of course, is also a good plan.

I'd throw in the step of moving it back to its original machine before the Windows reinstall, just for clarity.

...So your saying if i put my hard drive as a slave in another computer it would recognize my hard drive and i would have no problems getting into it too get what i want off it before i reformat? If its that simple that would be awesome.

thanks for the info.

It works for me, and sometimes I do have to do this. If you happen to have gone and encrypted any of your folders, however, decrypt them first or the data will be inaccessible.
