Installing W2KPro on my desktop (custom built 900AthlonTBird, 256RAM, 2 x 30GB IBM Deskstar).

Got to the screen "Performing Final Tasks" / "Please wait while Setup:" and down to "Registers components". The progress bar is at maybe 90%, and has stalled there for a good half-hour or more. I finally marked the exact point with a Post-It note, and it doesn't move a pixel. I'm fairly used to long waits in Setup, but this is way beyond, isn't it? No sounds from the hard drive, no nothing.

The install has been smooth up to this point.

There's no option to Cancel. I can't think of anything to do but hit the Hardware Reset button if it's really dead in the water.

Any clues? I expect reset will mess things up and I would have to actually start over to get the install to be right?

after waiting an hour, I figured there was no choice, so I bailed.

It started over automatically, with the stuff about keyboard and time zones, and went right through it in a matter of minutes.

So ... ?? Who knows??

If Win2k hangs during an install, it's safe to restart the machine. Generally it will pick up as close to where it left off. It keeps track of how far it gets.
