I have just built a new system and for the first time I have abandoned Intel in favour of the combination of the 266A chipset and the Athylon XP processor. Setting up the system is proving a substantial problem.
I have a problem with IDE 0 shown as P10 in the device manager properties for the first IDE. In my case device 1 is my Aopen CD/DVD drive which is showing as UDMA ok but of couse cannot be.
Via 4 in 1 v-435.

My hard drive is supposed to be fast but is running slower than a 7200 udma 66 according to Sandra.
In addition for reasons unknown my system insists on rebooting when I select shutdown !

I have never used a Via chipset before and am very unhappy with the problems I am getting
If anyone can shed any light on this problem I will be very greatfull.

I have discovered the fix.
Insert W2k disc and run file winnt32 in the i386 directory.
Do upgrade and sit back and wait to finish - do not interfere and allow plenty of time because you will think the installation has stopped.
