W2K vs XP

Okay, in the last phases of building another system and can' t decide on which OS to go with. My last 3 systems have had W2K on them and i've been pretty happy with how they've worked. Definitely not going to touch Vista yet; and not sure if i want all the bloat that goes with XP. So i'm looking for words of wisdom and experience.

System:
Mushkin SP6400 2gig memory
Powercolor X1950XT 512
AMD X2 4600
Biostar TForce 550 motherboard
SATA hd
SATA DVD
Mitsubisi CRT monitor (old but still works great)

System will be connected wireless to net, and be used mostly for gaming. Lol pls don't get into the AMD vs Intel debate. Ideally would have loved to spend more and top it out for a gaming platform, but this is my configuration. Possibly might do some mild overclocking, but not alot.

Will jumping to XP give me better gaming performance, or should i stick with W2K? Thanks
 
I would make the transition over to XP because Microsoft is not going to support Win2K anymore since Vista came out. In regard to performance in gaming, I really see no difference between Win2K and WinXp. The big diffference between the two is your overall multimedia experience. Win2K is a rock solid OS but lacks many of the multimedia features built in or available for Win XP.

I see no reason to go with an outdated OS that is in extended life phase of support. XP Pro is a mature, stable platform.

XP because:
[*]XP can easily be made to look like Windows 2K and all the visual "effects" can be disabled.
[*]System Restore (which can also be disabled)
[*]2K is in extended support, XP is still supported
[*]Some programs and games are written to not work in 2K
[*]Lack of future editions of certain windows applications in 2K (such as IE 7)
[*]Drivers and applications are tested and evaluated mostly on XP
