W2K swap still huge after setting it to 20mb. ??????? help

I just upgraded my ram for a total of 512mb of pc133 crucial cas222 🙂 and so I set my page file to 20mb. By right clicking on my computer->performance tab etc. I also added the ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1 line to my system.ini under the [386] section.

My swap file is still being reported as 520mb by sandra and by system information from within w2k.

Anybody know how to disable it or make it really small.

BTW is virtual memory and swapfile and pagefile are all the same thing no??

The location & size of the swap file can be changed: ControlPanel/System/Advanced/PerformanceOptions/Change.

Did you reboot so that the changes take effect? I mean I'm guessing so, but you never know. 🙂

Do a search for win386.swp and then right click->properties and see if it's really that big. Maybe Sandra is misreporting.

yes i rebooted....i was searching for pagefile.sys guess that's why i couldn't never find it. I'll look for that file. thanks

For some reason I had to do it twice the last time I installed w2k. Changed it rebooted checked it and wasn't what I wanted. changed it again and rebooted all is well.

Yep. I just checked it again to make sure it is still right.

Double-check here: ControlPanel/System/Advanced/PerformanceOptions/Change
If you changed to a different partition for the swap file, you need to "zero out" the size
of its previous location; otherwise Windows will use both the old & the new swap files. Which is what Sandra will report, as being in use.
