W2K Startup Network Connection

Before I enter my password into W2K, it has the dialog which says...
Preparing Network Connection...I just wanted to ask why does it check my floppy drive and my Cd-Rom drive?

Guess Bill G. &amp; Co. still include startup diagnostics for that old favorite: sneaker-net!
And are probably about to announce Micro$oft's lastest connectivity initiative/API/&quot;standard&quot;: ROM-net!

I believe it's because it wants to see if they are shared and a connection needs to be restored.
