Hi, my windows 2000 startup screen (the 640x480 color one with a progress bar at the bottom) just gone somehow. I see the black and white huge blank screen with a long bar at the bottom, and then it jumps to the login screen. Also when i scheduled a chkdsk at the beginning i cant see the progress neither. Is there a way for me to fix this without reinstalling?? thanks in advance.

Hmm, I can't remeber the name of the file but there is an .exe file that is the startup screen. There are programs that allow you to edit it. And there are .exe's you can replace it with to customize. Checkout www.customxp.com <--(I think thats the site if not just search for WinXP Boot Screens)

If you can't find it e-mail me and I can lookup the file name for you. As for running chkdsk at the beginning that may be the whole problem.. Have you turned it off. If so does the windows boot screen come up?

Check your c:\boot.ini file for a switch called /noguiboot. This switch would cause bootup to behave the way you described. If it's there just remove that switch.
