w2k sp3 botched installation problem

upgrading to sp3 on a w2k laptop and the installation botched, i/o error from source (network drive)

anyways, after reboot the system will not accept any logons. what it does exactly is accept the username/password/domain, the says loading personal settings, then it goes immediately to "saving settings" and right back to the ctrl alt del screen. same thing in safe mode, same thing with local users or domain users, tried 5 different account, connected remotely to profiles directory and renamed different profiles to see if that had any affect.

cannot find any info on this problem.. help!!!
