W2K Sp2 Drivers

One thing I noticed is that w2k sp2 does not update the drivers that the original version or sp1 installed. Is there a command that will instruct SP2 to search and installed all up to date drivers within the OS? Thanks in advance...

Drivers for what device in particular?

Normally the Service Packs do not provide updated device drivers for peripherals.

actually updated drivers are included for just about everything. But you have to manually install them.

After I installeed SP2 I had to update the VIA BM drivers manually, the new ones had a date of 4/24/01. I also had to update the primary and secondary controller drivers manually. That is why I slipstreamed the SP2 so that I could be sure that all new drivers available were used.

Sonar, by "update" do you mean that you re-installed your existing 3rd party drivers or did SP2 change the provided W2k drivers that you reinstalled or what?
I agree with AndyHui, I did not think SP2 affected drivers to the point of needed to reinstall. But I have not yet installed it yet either.

After installing SP2 I went into device manager, and right clicked on the VIA BM drivers, chose update driver, chose display compatibale drivers, it found one VIA BM driver, I let it use that driver and then after wards I checked the date and it says 4/24/01. I also did the same for the Primary and secondary controller. So I guess those would be considered MS drivers. I am not sure how that whole thing works, wether or not VIA gives MS drivers to use or if MS writes there own via drivers.

It may update a few drivers but thats about it. All my drivers are the same and they don't update. SP2 does not update drivers, it fixes bugs.

I went through each item manually in the Device manager and updated drivers that were included in SP2 on 80% of the Devices.

Are you sure cause I did the same thing. Most of my drivers are 1999 date and I let Win 2000 search Windows Update and where it normally checks. In other words I just checked marked Windows Update. None had updates. Of course I don't have a Via Chipset. I have a 440BX which is tryed and true. 😕

Interestingly I just tried this... on my W2K Server..... And yes the via drivers updated themselves to a driver dated 04/24/01.. I didnt catch anything else updating but those did.. I guess by default they dont go in.. like said above, update driver-display list.. select the driver that pops up.

Ok - I was wrong! I did it but it didn't seems to be actually loading anything just updating the date and driver number. This must be another bug in Win 2000. It does not update the info on the driver OR it is not updating the drivers. Either way I see no difference in performance and my computer still locks up when I go to standby.
