W2K Self restarting?

I don't know if this is a Windows problem or a hardware problem. All of my hardware is the same as my last install except for my motherboard. I installed W2K the same day I changed the motherboard. It has a habit of just restarting. Usually it is when my wife is on the internet, but it did it to me today after I closed MS Money. I didn't do anything else. Is there something in the BIOS that might make it restart? Is it a hard drive problem? Did I configure W2K screwy? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hmmm... If you have changed the motherboard, it can happen that you're so unfortunate to have discovered a hardware/software conflict.

You could try to run the system 'bare-bone', i.e. with just the mobo, videocard and no other PCI/ISA cards inserted. If nothing happens, try putting back all the cards seperately, until you find the one that causes your PC to restart. This one should be replaced by a compatible piece of hardware.

If the system restarts even when it's 'bare-bone', you're so 'lucky' to have discovered a driver that conflicts with the mobo somehow. Remove all drivers and install them one at a time, until the PC restarts suddenly again :p

Good luck!

It could be Win2K bugs that's causing this.

Look into your event viewer to determine the cause of this auto reboot. If you can solve it from the description of event viewer, great ... if not go to support.microsoft.com and look for a possible fix of your problem.

Default error recovery in win2k involves rebooting. You can change this by right-clicking on My Computer, going to properties, then the Advanced tab and the Startup and Recovery button. Uncheck "Reboot Automatically"

Thats the same damn problem I have with Windows 2000. I attribute it to the fact that it assigns 7 of my devices to IRQ 11 but I suppose they could be unrelated. Check that and let me know what you find. Also please tell what motherboard you have, mine is Abit VT6X4.

I am using an AOpen AX6BC Pro Gold. I changed the setting in "My Computer" and I will see how it works. My wife has been using it for about an hour and it has held, so maybe that fixed it. It did it a lot when she was reading her pregnancy boards. I hate those things. Anyway, thanks for all of the help and I will post another reply or e-mail you (ericd) in a day or so and let you know if it works. Thanks again.

UPDATE - I made the suggested changes and then updated the BIOS. It worked fine for a while then did it again today. My wife was using Winamp and e-mail (so she says). I did a few more updates today, drivers, etc., and I will see how it goes. Thanks again.
