W2K Registry Restore - anyone know how to completely restore reg.?

I save my registry file periodically by exporting it in REGEDIT in W2k.
Recently I wanted to restore a previous registry and when I tried to Import Registry, I got an error message that said could not copy some files.

What is the proper method to restore registry from a previous set in W2k?

that doesn't really make any sense because when REGEDIT exports the registry, it is one big REG file. Also, exporting the registry is not designed for backing it up. if you want to do that, use the windows backup thingy. Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup I'm sure you can figure it out from there

Yeah, like FMJGomerPyle said, make an ERD (Emergency Repair Disk). Its the easiest way to back up your registry. Its also an option in the recovery area to restore from ERD, while a backup registry might not cut it. LUCK!!!

Thanks guys,
In Regedit, the file/import option I thought was to "important" the one big file.reg that was previously exported.

If not, what is that command for - Import what?
